It begins with the Greek legend about Narcissus, a young man who as a punishment from the gods is doomed to become obsessed with and fall in love with his own reflection, which he constantly gazes upon in the water. Thus the term refers to an excessive self-admiration. Not that we should not love and respect ourselves. But if we come to think that our life is really just about me, then we risk Narcissism and, more importantly, we risk losing true eudaimonia.

Narcissism

Yes, we should love ourselves for who we are, because that is how God made us. Some people may have a problem that they become obsessed with themselves. It should not go to that extreme. I heard the singer Shakira goes to a doctor because she is obsessed with herself. The media has a lot to do with how we want to look, rather than how we should look.
I know someone that their name should be Narcissus! When we become obsessed with ourselves, we are actually punished because we cannot see the beauty of others and what they have to give. By not being so self-centered, we can learn to reach our eudaimonia easier by experiencing the world.
I assume this is in reference to the recent newspaper article about college student's increasing Narcissim.
As I understand that article, it is refering to the psychological condition of Narcissim. That condition goes well beyond being "in love with yourself" and includes problems such as being incapable of understanding other persons viewpoints.
C'mon looking at yourself is awesome!!! Just kidding. The key to acheive some type of succes here is finding a good balance of self admiration and love for others. I, personally believe that success comes from within. I will say that usually people are more confident when they think they look attractive. Now, the important thing to remember is that being attrative isnt limited to beauty and self-appearence. Those are two examples, but things such as personality and spirituality are just as important. So I say this, look at yourself in the mirror and be proud of what ever it is you bring to the table, and when you see someone else doing something nice or looking nice let them know. Chances are that person thinks the same way you do and thinks their now that attractive. Find the balance and you're solid.
excessive self-admiration is a great thing. It could give you the confidence to do anything, such as go for that dream girl or take that game winner at the buzzard. I feel that their should also be limits to that. I feel that some people get to big of ego from excessive self-admiration that could draw attention to themselves in a negative aspect such as "TO" does. His talents are superb but his ego from excessive self-admiration brings him down and exploits him to the media
